Cyber Security Training Program

Program Overview

Our Cyber Security Training Program is a comprehensive, hands-on internship designed to equip transitioning service members with the critical skills and experience required to enter the cybersecurity workforce. This program aligns with Department of Defense SkillBridge requirements by offering immersive, real-world training and mentorship under the supervision of experienced cybersecurity professionals.

Participants will engage in active network defense, threat detection, vulnerability assessments, and incident response tasks. The program incorporates both classroom instruction and live environment simulations tailored to the unique security challenges faced by organizations in Hawaii and California.

  • Understand fundamental cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Operate and configure security infrastructure such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.
  • Perform vulnerability scans and risk assessments using industry-standard software.
  • Monitor network traffic and respond to security incidents following organizational protocols.
  • Comprehend and apply relevant cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards (NIST SP 800-171, DoD RMF, HIPAA, GDPR as applicable).
  • Develop cyber hygiene awareness and implement security policies to reduce organizational risk.
  • Prepare for industry certification exams, including CompTIA Security+.
  • Full-time internship, 12 to 16 weeks (40 hours per week).
  • Participants complete approximately 480 to 640 total hours of structured training.
  • On-site training at either our Hawaii or California offices, providing access to live network environments and security tools.
  • Virtual classroom sessions and webinars to supplement hands-on experience and foster collaboration between both locations.
  • Access to cyber range simulators to practice defensive strategies against simulated attacks.
  • Weekly mentor meetings and progress evaluations.

  • Active-duty military members in their final 180 days of service or recently separated veterans.
  • Basic knowledge of IT systems, networking, or previous cybersecurity exposure preferred but not mandatory.
  • Security clearance eligibility is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a commitment to completing full program hours.
  • Real-world experience working on live cybersecurity operations.
  • Development of technical and analytical skills required for cybersecurity roles.
  • Eligibility to take industry-recognized certification exams (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent).
  • Increased employability in government, defense contractors, and private sector cybersecurity roles.
  • Networking opportunities with professionals and potential employers in Hawaii and California.
  • The program is non-paid and does not displace any paid employees, fully compliant with DoD SkillBridge policies.
  • Service members remain on active duty status and receive military pay/benefits during participation.
  • All training plans and curriculum materials are reviewed and approved by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) prior to program launch.
  • Progress and participation are tracked and reported regularly to ensure program fidelity.

  2. Initial screening interview to assess background and interest.
  3. Completion of a technical assessment evaluating basic IT and cybersecurity knowledge.
  4. Final selection and placement into Hawaii or California cohorts based on preference and availability.
  5. Pre-program onboarding including security briefing and program expectations.
